Although I have already been working on my clone 67 for almost a decade (long gaps as I deployed for several years during this span). While I was deployed, I came across the chance to buy a real 67 2000. Since I was gone, my wife and brother were able to close the deal for me.
I did so much work on the clone, but my goal was always a real 67 2000 because they are so unique to the Roadster timeline. I now own SRL 31100321.
These are the original ad photos.
One of the important parts to a 67 2000 was the U20 engine. The early 67 2000 had a non-smog head. There are other somewhat unique items like the washer bag and the voltage regulator.
The early 2000's also came with early Solex carbs. Most prefer the later Type 4's, but #321 came with the correct early carbs.
5 speed with correct shift plate.
The ad listed the seats with the 67.5 bolt on heasdrest.
Also had the correct 8000 Tach and 160 Speedo.
Also had a hard top with the package.
Soft top frame with correct 67.5 latches (made to allow use of sun visors).
Final photo was the 2000 grill.
My brother loading up everything.
There were boxes with lots of the small tidbits.
#321 delivered to my driveway!
Like the title says...time to start everything again. U20 rebuild, 5 Speed Tranny, Frame, etc.
The other purchase during my gap in the resto is what I call the "parts" car.
I saw an ad for a 66 low windshield car which does me no good for most parts on my 67.5.
Note the 3 center gauges and 4 switches, while the 67.5 was two gauge, 3 switch center.
The ad had lots of large panel parts (fenders, Hoods, patch panels. etc.)
There was a pile of suspension parts.
What drove me to the purchase was the pile of small parts (most NOS).
I looked through the ad photos and tried to price out how much I would spend to buy some of these items individually.
NOS taillight set.
Most chrome parts had already been chromed and were just extra as the taillights already existed as did door handles, etc.
I really saved buying the whole car to just get the parts.
Obviously, everything will not work for a half year car, but many of the items will work.
New windshield and new dash pad!
Door and windshield weatherstripping.
Since I have a 66 daily driver, the 67.5 clone, the 67 2000 #321, and a 311-race car, things were getting out of hand, so I gave my brother a complete car and lots of extra parts.
Parts to the giveaway tub.
Since I really bought this low screen for that NOS parts bundle, I gave this roller to a 311-list member.
Heading out to a new home.
Also gave the tops away as I have others.
Like every other Roadster owner, we seem to gather parts for that "just in case" moment.
